UPDATED: New DNA Tests Requested For Missing Teen Alexis Murphy
October 22, 2014
The Nelson County Commonwealth's Attorney said Wednesday that Randy Taylor's defense attorney has requested new DNA testing to determine if Jesse Matthew's DNA was in Alexis Murphy's car.
Taylor is serving a life sentence in the death of the Nelson County teen. Her body has never been found. In his defense, Randy Taylor told prosecutors there was a black man with cornrows who was with Murphy the night she went missing. However, that man was identified by investigators and testified at Taylor's trial, denying those claims.
The formal request was made to the FBI lab by the Commonwealth's Attorney. The FBI lab in Quantico has not given a specific time frame for when these tests will be completed, but Commonwealth's Attorney, Anthony Martin, has asked that the tests be done as quickly as possible.
