In the Pink Tennis Tournament Raises Money for Breast Cancer Care
September 27, 2014
Dozens of women took to the tennis courts in Charlottesville on Saturday to raise money for breast cancer patients at Martha Jefferson Hospital.
Proceeds from the In the Pink tournament go to Marianne's Room at the Martha Jefferson Hospital.
They provide wigs, scarves and other resources that breast cancer patients might need throughout treatment.
This is the 12th year for the tournament.
The Boar's Head Sports Club held one of the tournaments on Saturday.
Eight teams of women played several rounds of tennis, all wearing pink to support the cause
“We all either know someone who is close to us, a relative, friend, mother, daughter, wife, who is undergoing cancer treatment right now,” says site coordinator Bonnie Hagerman. “It's just important to have these resources available to women as they are going through a very tough time in their lives.”
Nine facilities in Charlottesville hosted the tournament today.
The goal is to fundraise between $25,000 and $30,000.
