Va. College Council to Make Budget Recommendations
October 25, 2014
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia's higher education council says a big increase in the number of students needing financial aid will be a major consideration in its next round of budget proposals.
The State Council for Higher Education in Virginia will vote on its budget recommendations to the governor and General Assembly at a meeting Tuesday in Richmond.
The council says that because of the recession and a slow recovery, the number of students who need financial aid to attend college in Virginia has increased by 78 percent since 2011.
Also on the agenda are proposals for bachelor's degrees in neurosciences at Virginia Tech and graphic arts and animation design at Longwood University.
