Lane High School Celebrates Class of 1974
When you walked into the Lane High School Reunion, all you could hear were the smooth grooves of the sixties and seventies.
The Temptations, Al Green and of course some James Brown. But more importantly old high school buddies of all classes at Lane were simply excited to catch up on old times.
Classes of all years celebrated at Lane High School reunion today. It's been 40 years since the school closed down in 1974.
As classmates caught up on good times over food and spirits, some even took it to the dance floor as the Soul Transit Authority band took the former Lane students back to what some called the good old days.
"Oh yea, we used to have little hops and stuff back then," said Arthur Brown.
For some students they will never stop raving about the 53 game winning streak held by its football team from 1962 to 1967.
"The 53 game winning streak with the football team, I think that's when all of us were pretty decided, that yup, we wanted to go to Lane," said a class of 74 graduate.
But for 1973 graduate, David Sloane, he says he cant forget the importance of school pride and race relations.
"Being 15, 16 and 17, you were pretty oblivious to what was going on, but it was a big deal," Sloane said. "So hats off to everybody that came through that and came together, and call themselves Black Knights."
Several people at the reunion recounted several different memories of their time at the high school, but one thing remained the same, they all love Lane High School, forevermore.
