Hoos in Omaha: Final Practice

CBS19's Matt Parsons recaps his first day in Omaha with the UVA baseball team as they hold their last practice before the College World Series opener against Cal.

Day One for me in Omaha.  The Cavs practiced outdoors at Boys Town, focusing mainly on defense.  Then they had to move to an indoor facility for batting practice because of all the rain Omaha has gotten over the last day or two.  As far as the team goes, all of the guys look like they're right where they need to be. They're loose, but you can tell there's an intense focus as well.

Got to talk to Coach O'Connor and Branden Kline today, both feel pretty confident about the Cal game (see video to the left for O'Connor talking about fan support in Omaha).  With Danny Hultzen on the mound, you know he's going to give the team a chance to win.  Add to that, Danny and nine other players have been here before, so playing in front of a huge crowd Sunday is not going to be quite as big of a shock to their system as it was back in 2009.

Definitely have met some very nice people here so far (one couple even helped me carry my equipment today!)  I don't know what Omaha is like the other 50 weeks of the year, but it's crazy here!  There are people everywhere and everyone seems to be having a great time.  The local merchants must love this time of year.

As far as the games go, the ACC is 0-1 after Carolina lost to Vanderbilt.  We'll see if the Cavs can get the ACC in the win column on Sunday!

Go Hoos!
