Good afternoon,
What a wild 18 hours this has been. I first got word of President Obama's expected announcement just before 10 last night. We had the limited information we had on several times during the Fox newscast with Carter Johnson. Hope you got to see Carter again after the network coverage. Our local news went on late last night, actually very early this morning, but proud and happy to do it with so much to say.
Our Good Morning Charlottesville crew had the strong video of the reaction downtown and on Grounds. Frankie Jupiter did an excellent job capturing those moments. At noon today, Ruth Showatler brought you the group pledging allegiance to the flag on the Mall. Carter and Stephanie Satchell are putting together pieces for the evening newscasts with new angles on Bin Laden's death and his impact.
CBS is offering an hour long edition of Katie Couric's newscast tonight but we're staying with our usual local newscast at 7. We'll of course have any latebreaking information on the national part of the story but there's so much going on here, we don't want to disappoint the folks who have come to depend on that newscast for a fresh look at the local news.
Also tonight, it's Jay James on Faith at 5 with a segment about a local church trying to prevent human trafficking. At 6, Dan Schutte throws another dart at the map as he continues his series of feature stories. Tara Wheeler has Hot on the Hanger at 7. And Jessica Jaglois has a special report at 11 on the efforts to improve safety on Grounds now that a year has passed since Yeardley Love's death.
That's a first look at our day...enjoy yours,
Jim
