Just a few seconds before John Rodgers and I began anchoring the WAHU FOX 27 News at 10, Tiffany Sargent popped into the studios to let us know the shocking Dancing with the Stars results. We could not believe it. Last night's bewildering DWTS elimination has everyone talking. After sitting atop the leader-board for weeks and coming off of a perfect performance the night before, Brandy Norwood and her partner Maks Chmerkovskiy were eliminated just shy of making it to the finals. As tough as that must have been to swallow, adding salt to the wound was the fact that the couple edging them out have been at the bottom of the pack for most of the competition.
Fellow competitors, judges, and audience members were visibly shocked at the announcement.
Alaska's former first daughter, Bristol Palin, has struggled all season long and dealt with comments from the judges criticizing her bad form and lack of emotion. There's no doubt, the teen mom has steadily improved, but her skill level is no where near the others who made it to the finals and no where near many who were eliminated long before now.
Palin's surprising continued advancement have some people preaching political conspiracy theories about the Tea Party banding together to support Bristol's mom. Well, what's stopping all of the other fans from joining forces to support their favorite contestant as well?
Despite her lack of talent on the ballroom floor, maybe Bristol represents what the show is all about: taking someone with zero performing experience, and teaching them to dance. Brandy is a professional performer who sings and dances for a living. Jennifer Grey is best known for cutting a rug in "Dirty Dancing". Many of the other contestants come to the show with at least a bit of experience in the entertainment industry (and everyone knows athletes love to dance... you can see their moves in the end zone on any given Sunday). Bristol has started from scratch and come a long way. She's been humble through the whole competition and is just embracing every step of the experience. There's no reason for people to be so vicious towards the girl. Come on, it's just a TV show!
If she's made it this far, I honestly wouldn't be shocked if she won the coveted Mirror Ball. I don't think that she should... but I can accept the fact that she might.
