Sometimes, speed is everything. Such is the case with our next storm system which is making tracks across the Ohio Valley as I type this. Rain showers and flurries are expected by noontime across the area. The falling precipitation will actually cool the air, so it won't be long after lunch that temperatures drop and change rain showers into snow showers. By the time the snow showers end late tonight, there could be up to an inch of snow accumulation on grassy surfaces. This accumulating snow will be more likely in areas north of Charlottesville and Interstate 64 - Culpeper, Madison, Orange, and Greene Counties. With the recent warmth it will be more difficult for snow to accumulate on the roads, though caution should be exercised regardless. It will be even more difficult to get more than an inch of snow from this system; its fast movement will result in nothing more than a brief, flaky friendly reminder that we are still in February.

Come Thursday and Friday, it'll be like nothing ever happened. Temperatures will warm to the 40s and 50s under mostly sunny skies. This weekend will see a return of colder temperatures; highs by Sunday afternoon will drop to the upper 30s. The first half of next week will be dry and flake-free with daytime highs returning to the 40s and 50s.
