January Precip. Look Back

Rain and snow puts our January precip totals above average.

As January comes to a close, lets take a look back at our precipitation totals for the month. The average January precip. is 3.71" for Charlottesville. We started 2010 on a very dry note with only a trace of precip being reported at CHO from January 1st through January 16th. Here are the final January numbers from CHO, McCormick Observatory, and our Weather Watcher Larry in Madison.

January Total: 3.89"
January Snow: 10.6"
+0.18" over average

McCormick Observatory
January Total: 5.24"
January Snow: 10.6"
+1.53" over average

January Total: 3.31"
January Snow: 5.73"

*Record set at McCormick for the most consecutive days of measurable snow on the ground from a single snowfall. 28 days from December 19th to January 15th.
