Memorial Day is the unofficial start to the summer season, and it looks like we are jumping in head first! A ridge of high pressure will build over central Virginia starting Sunday and last through mid week. This will allow very hot and humid conditions throughout the area. Sunday's forecast brings a mix of sun and clouds with highs back near 90 degrees. Monday, which is Memorial Day, we will see bright sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 90s! We also have the chance to see heat index values near 100, and that could spark off heat advisories. By the way, our average temperature for this time of the year is in the upper 70s.
Although the weather for this holiday seems to be perfect for anything outdoors, make sure you are prepared for extreme heat. Lather up on the sunscreen, and drink PLENTY of water. It's a good idea to wear light colored clothing and please don't forget about your pets, they are also susceptible to the heat.

Cheers for now,
