On this cold Tuesday evening with the mercury expected to drop even more, I decided to do some digging to find out how long it's been since we have experienced temperatures quite this cold. Here's what I found out...
Tuesday's high at the airport in Charlottesville only reached 32º - that's the freezing mark. The last time we experienced an afternoon high of 32º or colder was back in January of 2011, nearly one full year ago. The exact date was January 22, 2011 when the mercury didn't even climb out of the 20s.
The forecast low for Tuesday night is 17º, which is well below our average. The most recent overnight temperatures this cold were found back in February of 2011, nearly 11 months ago! To put this all into perspective, Tuesday night's lows in the upper teens won't even come close to the record lows, which are well down into the single digits.
If all of this talk about cold weather has you shivering, don't worry! Friday and Saturday will feature afternoon highs soaring back into the upper 50s and lower 60s!
Until then, throw that extra log on the fire or cozy up under that blanket...It's going to get cold tonight!
