Spring Swings!

Spring is here and this is the time of year that typically presents us with some of our toughest forecasting challenges!

We're all familiar with spring swings. I'm not talking about the device that can be suspended from a tree where you can spend a lazy springtime afternoon. I'm talking about the day-to-day temperature fluctuations we can experience here in Virginia that can send us scrambling for the jacket or leaving us running for the flip-flops! The weather for the past week has been very indicative of these crazy temperature swings. Here are some of the afternoon highs from Charlottesville for the past seven days:

March 15: 48°
March 16: 58°
March 17: 67°
March 18: 78°
March 19: 65°
March 20: 54°
March 21: 80°

As you can see from looking at the numbers, we can experience just about ANY type of temperature this time of year! Generally speaking the last few weeks of March and the entire month of April can feature these dramatic temperature swings and it's not generally until May that things begin to level out and warm up for good. Until then, keep the entire wardrobe at the ready, because it will likely be put to good use for the next month or so!
