Wake-Up Call!

A recap of Monday night's severe weather and what to expect for the next few days.

One of the largest severe outbreaks in a few years occurred Monday from the Deep South, to the Ohio Valley, and finally the mid-Atlantic. More than 1300 reports of severe weather came in from nearly 20 states, with the majority of them being damaging wind gusts. There were about two dozen tornado reports, primarily across the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. Unfortunately, some of these tornadoes proved to be deadly.

Our severe weather came rolling in during the middle of the night and while it provided us with a vivid light show and very gusty winds, major damage wasn't reported. I've been hearing reports of a few large branches broken and some downed trees, but it seems we escaped the worst of it. With this severe weather coming during the middle of the night, it serves as an important reminder to make sure you have a severe weather action plan in place. Know where you would go and what you would in the event of another nighttime severe weather event. NOAA Weather Radios are wonderful devices to have in situations like this and you can also sign up for text alerts for your cell phone through the Newsplex. At this point, it looks likes severe weather chances will remain low through the end of the work week.

On another note, I had several people telling me that their pets were going crazy during the severe weather. I've noticed that some animals are absolutely terrified of thunderstorms, while others could care less. How about your four-legged friend? What do they do when thunderstorms strike?
