Weather Words: April 16th

Rainfall? Not on our watch!

It's been said time and time again that we need rain in central Virginia, and that sentiment continues to ring true. Our deficit for the year stands at 2.18" below normal as of this morning, and all of central Virginia is now classified as "abnormally dry" as per the state drought monitor. We've yet to receive any measurable rain this month at the airport in Charlottesville (KCHO). Aside from a few sprinkles this coming Wednesday afternoon and Satuday afternoon, we'll remain dry through the next seven days. Pollen counts and enhanced fire danger will remain as a result.

Warm temperatures will be the focus of today's weather as highs across the area will be roughly twenty degrees above normal. A bulge in the jet stream will allow warm air from the Equator to move east of the Appalachians. Colder air moves in on Tuesday, and temperatures will slide through Wednesday. Outstanding conditions - sunny and low to mid 70s - will be had Thrusday and Friday, and the see-saw flips again Sunday with another cooldown expected.

3, 2, 1, fade out.
