Weather Words: February 10

It's not about the flurries this weekend. It's about the COLD.

Quick blog post due to a very important meeting...

Today: increasing clouds with temperatures in the lower 50s. We'll be cloudy tonight, most will see rain showers though mountains / higher elevations will catch some flurries and snow showers. Like a few days ago, no accumulation is expected. We'll stay on the cloudier side of the sky on Saturday, and we may have a couple of late-day rain sprinkles. (Note: some computer models are hinting at snow flurries instead. While I think it'll be way too warm, don't be surprised if the Saturday afternoon forecast changed a tad between now and then via Brantley and Suzanne. It may end up being colder than I expect.) We'll return to our sunny skies Sunday, but then there's the cold....

Cold air slamming into the area this weekend will keep temperatures in the 30s and 40s. Gusty winds both Saturday and Sunday (up to 30 miles per hour) will mean wind chills in the 20s and 30s. Goes without saying that Winter will make a triumphant - but brief - return to the area. By Monday, we're back in the upper 40s, and the remainder of next week will feature highs in the 50s.

For what it's worth, our normal high this time of year in Charlottesville is 48 degrees. Here's your staggering fact of the morning: we've only had twelve (12) days since the turn of the New Year where daytime highs have been at or below normal.

Have a great weekend! 3, 2, 1, fade out.
