Community Counts gives you a chance to learn more about the people and the organizations that have a positive impact on our community. This week we feature the 2010 Charlottesville Heart Walk.
Heart Walk Chair, Joe Raichel, joined CBS19's Bo Sykes to talk more about the event, which takes place at Monticello High School on October 10 this year.
Heart disease is the number one killed in our community and the nation, with 865,000 people dying each year.
Raichel says they walk for three main reasons:
1) To celebrate all the funds people have raised for cardiovascular research and programs here in central Virginia
2) To honor and remember those people we've lose to heart disease, as well as those people who have survived
3) To exhibit a heart-healthy lifestyle
Registration begins at 1pm at Monticello High School on October 10. The walk begins at 2:30pm. There will be 1-mile and 3-mile options. You can find more information on the Heart Walk Website.
