Community Counts gives you a chance to learn more about the people and the organizations that have a positive impact on our community. This week we feature archeology at Montpelier.
Matt Reeves, Director of Archeology at Montpelier, joined CBS19's Bo Sykes to talk more about the big project underway.
Diggers are working on excavating the slave quarter, which is located between the Montpelier mansion and visitor's center. Over the past three months, excavators have unearthed the remnants of a slave quarters, which they believed was occupied by some of James Madison's slaves.
The larger dig project is a 3-year examination of three different sites of the slave quarters at Montpelier.
Anyone interested in getting involved in the digging and excavating can contact Matt Reeves at 540-672-2728 or via email at mreeves@montpelier.org.
