What: Wordplay, a fundraising event supporting Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle (LVCA). This team-based competition gives local trivia aficionados a chance to flex their noggins. Participants enjoy dinner, a chance to win prizes, and of course, a challenging game of trivia! Professional Game Master Debra Weiss returns to deliver a mind-bending experience with questions ranging from pop culture to vocabulary and history.

About LVCA: Approx 11,000 individuals in the Charlottesville/Albemarle are illiterate. LVCA is the only non-profit agency offering FREE, individualized, one-on-one tutoring in basic literacy and/or English as a second language. Since its inception, over 25 years ago, LVCA has mobilized thousands of volunteers to assist adults in becoming better workers, parents, neighbors, and citizens. Just a few of our accomplishments as of July 2008:
• 3 individuals graduated our program and are enrolled @ Piedmont
• 4 people were able to vote for the first time
• 10 learners were able to secure a job thanks to our volunteers
• 32 workers were able to keep their job because of their new skills
• 7 members of our community became citizens
• 5 parents were able to help their children do their homework
• 38 students learned how to use a computer
236 individuals have received tutoring since July 2008 - and we are welcoming new students daily!
