Community Counts gives you a chance to help you learn more about the people and the organizations that have a positive impact on our community. This week we feature the Athena Foundation's Athena Award.
Cheri Lewis, the 2009 recipient of the Athena Award, joined CBS19's Bo Sykes to talk more about the award and the foundation.
The Athena Award is presented annually by chambers of commerce, women’s organizations, and universities. The award is established through the local organization partnering with the Athena Foundation.
Nominations are solicited within our community during November and December and we present our local award to the winner in February at the Charlottesville regional Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Conference, Quadruplicity.
There are are three criteria for the Athena Award winner:
1) Demonstrating excellence, creativity, and innovative in their business or profession.
2) Providing valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community.
3) Actively assisting women in realizing their full leadership potential.
