Community Counts gives you a chance to learn more about the people and the organizations that have a positive impact on our community. This week we feature the Salvation Army Back to School Supply Drive.
Major Allen Johnson from the Salvation Army joined CBS19's Bo Sykes to talk more about the drive, which runs from July 19 to August 19 and benefits local low-income children who are identified by the City and Albemarle County school systems as needing assistance.
Items needed for the school supply drive include pens, pencils, binders, spiral notebooks and backpacks. Organizers say they are generally looking for things geared toward children in grades K-8.
Residents can find the Salvation Army drop off barrels at various ACAC and Virginia National Bank locations, as well as Salvation Army offices. There will also be a drop off bin at the Charlottesville Newsplex, located at 999 2nd Street SE in Charlottesville.
