VNB Community Counts: Design House 2011

March 11, 2011

Community Counts gives you a chance to learn more about the people and the organizations that have a positive impact on our community. This week we feature Design House 2011.

Connie English joined CBS19's Bo Sykes to talk more about the event, which benefits the Shelter for Help in Emergency.

Shown above is the beautiful home and farm in the Crozet area of Albemarle County that has been selected as the 2011 Design House venue. Designers will converge on 1687 Mint Springs Road on Mint Springs Farm in Crozet to engage their talents with the latest in interior design styles and techniques for a home tour designed to inspire.

The idea for a Design House had its roots in the new emergency residential shelter opened in 2008. As the first facility designed from the ground up specifically for victims of domestic violence in our community, it was important that the shelter should be bright, airy and welcoming—an inspiring, nurturing environment to foster physical and emotional healing.

In its inaugural year, Design House brought together 17 designers to transform a contemporary Ednam Forest house, combining their creative visions and donations or loans of paint, tile, rugs and furnishings.
