VNB Community Counts: Foothills Child Advocacy Center

April 8, 2011

Community Counts gives you a chance to learn more about the people and the organizations that have a positive impact on our community. This week we feature the Foothills Child Advocacy Center.

Lori Green joined CBS19's Bo Sykes to talk more about the center, which is a safe, private place for a child who has been the victim of family violence or abuse.

The purpose of a CAC is to provide a well coordinated multidisciplinary team response to allegations of child abuse or victimization, beginning with a forensic interview and including case management services for children and their non-offending family members or guardians.

Charlottesville and Albemarle County are not immune from family violence and child abuse.

- 1 in 4 girls is sexually abused before the age of 18

- 1 in 6 boys is sexually abused before the age of 18

- 1 in 5 children are solicited sexually while on the internet
