Community Counts gives you a chance to learn more about the people and the organizations that have a positive impact on our community. This week we feature the Foothills Child Advocacy Center.
Lori Green joined CBS19's Bo Sykes to talk more about the center, which is a safe, private place for a child who has been the victim of family violence or abuse.
The purpose of a CAC is to provide a well coordinated multidisciplinary team response to allegations of child abuse or victimization, beginning with a forensic interview and including case management services for children and their non-offending family members or guardians.
Charlottesville and Albemarle County are not immune from family violence and child abuse.
- 1 in 4 girls is sexually abused before the age of 18
- 1 in 6 boys is sexually abused before the age of 18
- 1 in 5 children are solicited sexually while on the internet
