Now that the weather is warming up, golfers throughout the area are dusting off their clubs and hitting the links. While it is said golf is mostly a mental game, some people who took part in a special clinic in Charlottesville proved that it is also a game of the heart.
The Eastern Amputee Golf Association held a clinic in Charlottesville to teach amputees the art of the swing.
"Our plan is to teach folks the fun and enjoyment of golf, and this is the way we start and let them know, even with a disability, this is one sport you can play," said Bob Buck, executive director of the Eastern Amputee Golf Association
Jayce Hanson was born with a congenital birth defect, so he has short arms and is missing some of his fingers. He also had both legs amputated.
But that doesn't slow this young man down. "I have fun doing a lot things, hanging out with my friends, going golfing," he says.
"He's been making some good contact with the golf ball. He's fearless anyway," said Buck.
In fact, Jayce said there is only one thing he has to worry about. "You just sometimes get blisters, so I gotta calm down getting all the anger out, just let it go sometimes."
Add Jayce to the list of people enjoying the game of golf on a nice spring day.
