The spring event for the Friends of the Library Book Sale raked in at least $100,000 to benefit libraries in central Virginia.

Hundreds of books donated all year long had been sold for the past 10 days at the Gordon Avenue branch of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Libraries.

The costs of the books were much lower than the jacket prices, and Sunday was a half-off sale.

On the final day, customers who previously bought books earlier in the week returned for one final look.

"It's great this is my third time back this week and I think I've spent less and less each time," said Charlottesville resident Katie Ryan. "The first day I spent 20 dollars and today I only spent 3.50 and I got the same bag of books each time so it's a great thing in the fall and the spring and it's my favorite parts of the year."

As people leave the book sale and take home the books donated by others, they sometimes find photographs inside used as bookmarks.

When volunteers sift through the books and find the photographs, they put them in a photo album for customers to browse and possibly reclaim an old photograph.

There are five photo albums filled with pictures collected over the years.
