Postal workers in central Virginia not only dropped of letters Saturday but also picked up pounds of food for the annual Stamp Out Hunger Drive.

The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank has partnered with the United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area and the Civil Air Patrol for six years to help run its biggest food drive.

The drive restocks the food bank for the summer.

"Donations really come in at a trickle, and at the same time, school's over and the children's feeding programs stop and the demand for food increases," said Tom Caputi of the food bank. "So this is going to help us a lot."

Last year, more than 50,000 lbs. of food was donated. This year, they're hoping to break 100,000 lbs.
