Alzheimer's Association Receives Donation Thanks to Newsplex Community

January 3, 2014

If you "liked" The Newsplex Facebook page during the week before Christmas, your "Like" went a long way.

Jeanne McCusker and Home Instead Senior Care in Charlottesville partnered with the Newsplex for the inaugural Holiday Giving promotion. For every new "Like" our Facebook page received between December 16 and December 22, Home Instead agreed to donate $1 to the Central and Western Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

With the help of everyone in this community the WCAV CBS19 News page received 965 "Likes" during the seven-day fundraising period, which Home Instead graciously rounded up to an even $1,000 donation.

Plus, locally the Alzheimer's Association benefited from an anonymous donor who pledged to match all donations made in the month of December, effectively doubling the amount raised through this promotion.

Sue Friedman, president and CEO of the Central and Western Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, says the money goes towards education, research, and training. "Eleven percent of all the funds we raise supports research, whether it's individual researchers or research consortiums across the country and the world. The rest of the money goes towards education and awareness and training for caregivers," she explained.

The $1,000 from Home Instead was matched, making the grand total raised $2,000. If you donated with a like, thank you.
