A large fundraising effort to bring year-round swimming to Crozet is all but complete. There currently is not an indoor swimming facility in the western Albemarle County, but that may soon change.

According to a letter posted on RealCrozetVA, the Crozet Park Aquatics and Recreation Center is in its final stages. Construction of a dome over the pool at Claudius Crozet Park could start as early as February and be completed by May 2012.

For months a volunteer group has been hosting dances, festivals and other events in an effort to raise the money needed for the bubble and some other beautification projects at the park. The group was $40,000 short entering this month, but has raised $22,000 so far. Plus, among that money raised is a $10,000 donation that comes with another $10,000 if the remaining shortfall can be raised by the end of the year.

In simpler terms, if another $8,000 is raised by Saturday, the fundraising project will be complete ($10K donation + $10K match + $12K raised so far this month + $8K still needed = $40K).

Donations can be made online or sent to:

Crozet PARC
PO Box 171
Crozet, VA 22932

Funding begin with a community challenge of $200,000 from the Claudius Crozet Park Board, Inc. To read the letter, click here.
