Martha Jefferson Hospital is asking Charlottesville residents to donate blood. They need all types of blood for a variety of purposes.
On average Martha Jefferson Hospital uses 20 units or pints of blood to treat patients.
Sara Hoffman, the Blood Bank Section Leader says, "If we didn't get this blood then a lot of the patients might not survive a trauma or surgery, depending on how much blood loss they had."
One patient, Bernard Kaminski, has to go in for a blood tests every day and transfusions every three to five weeks. He says the illness has opened his eyes and made him realize how important blood donation truly is.
If you would like to make a difference you can donate blood at Martha Jefferson Hospital. The blood drive starts on September 28 from noon until 4pm and on September 29 from 7am until 11:30am.
The Virginia Blood Service will have their mobile donation center parked in front of the Cadwell Center.
