Dr. Bill Hammill, a Cardiologist with Martha Jefferson Hospital discusses the important uses of an A-E-D and how we can use this machine to help save someone’s life.
When someone needs and A-E-D, their heart is experiencing Ventricular Fibrillation. This is where the heart is encountering an abnormal heart rhythm and is usually a brief duration rhythm. Coronary blockage, electrolyte or medication disturbance and other cardiac abnormalities are some causes of Ventricular Fibrillation. VF is usually the first sign of cardiac disease.
A-E-D’s are easy to use and should be prominently displayed in public areas. Martha Jefferson Hospital offers a class upcoming in February on how to use this life saving equipment. Go online today to participate in February's Community CPR/AED Training.
