The new Martha Jefferson Hospital isn't scheduled to open until 2012, but Wednesday the community got its first glimpse at what the state-of-the-art hospital will look like.
The new 450,000 square foot medical center will feature larger operating rooms, more space in the ER, as well as private rooms for patients.
"In the 1950s when a portion of the hospital was built, people thought 'great, no more wards, semi-private rooms. Isn't this wonderful,'" explained hospital President Jim Haden. "Today people really expect to be in a private room, so we will be able to offer all private rooms in the new facility."
The new hospital will be located at Peter Jefferson Place on Pantops. Groundbreaking is set for next year.
