Many have been preparing for the Martha Jefferson Hospital 8K Run & 4K Walk, now in its 14th year. The race raises money for the hospital's Community Outreach Program. This program organizes blood pressure checks, diabetes education programs, health screenings, and The Healthcare Dreamers Camp for Kids.
The race takes walkers and runners through the historic neighborhoods and streets of Charlottesville.
John Knox, 82, has been walking in the 4K for the last few years.
"I think it's wonderful that Martha Jefferson does a lot for the community," he said. "It's just a nice way to start a Saturday morning."
Knox's walking partner, Bob Morf, 93, also sees the benefits of the race.
"It's a worthwhile cause," he added. "And I guess its just a good excuse for getting out on a Saturday morning and doing some walking."
Knox's and Morf's footsteps will soon be echoed by hundreds. The Martha Jefferson 8K Run & 4K Walk will take place on March 13 at 8 a.m.
You can register for the race on its Web site.
