With only a couple of weeks left until the new Martha Jefferson Hospital opens its doors, hospital officials are making sure everything is ready to go both on the inside and outside of the new facility.

Inside the building, officials are hard at work trying to make sure the 1,800 employees working in the new facility will be ready on opening day. CBS19's Stephanie Satchell goes behind the scenes during this week's segment of Martha Jefferson Healthwise.

Volunteers at the Martha Jefferson Hospital are getting ready for the big move into the brand new building. The group is going through a special orientation session, and something they call Replacement Hospital Training.

"It's about a three hour training course and it includes a program at the beginning that goes over all the regulatory information, expectations from the opening of the hospital, and the expectation as far at the tours," said Debbie Desmond, of the Martha Jefferson Hospital.

After receiving information about changes to signage, patient rooms, etc. the group was split into smaller groups for a tour of the facility.

"They get to go around and visit all the new places we have, see a patient room, see some of the new patient equipment. The goal is to really make them be familiar with the hospital when they get here and have a comfort zone," said Desmond.

Staff working in the lab have been making sure the equipment is working properly and ready to go on opening day.

"In any situation, especially when you're dealing with peoples' lives you want to make sure the equipment works appropriately, so you want to make sure that all the technology is in place, the training is in place, and the people are in place," said Desmond.

Hospital officials say they have already met with hundreds of employees and by the time the hospital opens, everyone who works in the new building will be trained and ready to provide the best service possible.
