Martha Jefferson Healthwise: Affordable Hospital Award

Dec. 18, 2013

When it comes to common medical procedures, a new ranking places Martha Jefferson Hospital in first place for most affordable care.

A group called Nerd Wallet came up with the "Most Affordable Hospital Award." It looks at the 50 largest hospitals in Virginia.
For each of those hospitals, they determine the lowest prices for the 100 most common medical procedures. They include things like congestive heart failure, appendicitis, stroke, pneumonia and more.

"The most affordable hospital award really reinforces what we are trying to do every day simply trying to provide our community great quality care at the best prices. People are having to make hard choices each and every day and this award simply allows Martha Jefferson Hospital to be known as being affordable for some of those more common procedures," said Deb Thexton, Director of Finance and Compliance.

If people are having a difficult time making ends meet and need medical attention, Martha Jefferson Hospital says it's always willing to work with their patients in either accessing financial assistance or providing free care.
