Dozens of people in the Charlottesville area will soon be wearing pink and playing tennis to raise money and breast cancer awareness.
On Saturday more than 200 men and women in Charlottesville will pick up a racket and tennis ball and hit the clay court at eight different tennis clubs in the area.
“My favorite is going out and seeing everyone having fun and dressed in pink and having everyone participating for a great cause,” said Brenda Myers, Chair, “In the Pink” Tennis Tournament.
It's all part of the 10th annual "In the Pink" tennis tournament presented by the Women's Committee of Martha Jefferson Hospital.
It benefits Marianne's room in the cancer center at Martha Jefferson Hospital.
Marianne's room is a room at Martha Jefferson Cancer Resource Center that provides wigs, hats scarves and post-surgical prosthesis for breast cancer patients,” said Myers.
This resource is free to cancer patients.
“It's a huge source of comfort for people who can afford it and for people who cannot afford it,” said Myers.
This year organizers are hoping to raise 30 thousand dollars which will help keep Marianne’s room stocked and give cancer patients access to the items they need during treatment.
“In the Pink” takes place on Saturday from 9:00am until noon.
