Martha Jefferson Hospital wants to help patients keep better track of their medical records. Patients will now have the option to look at their records online on a secure site.
If you've been a patient and wanted to see your medical records, you probably had to go to the hospital and pick up a hard copy.
Now Martha Jefferson Hospital is trying to make that process easier using something called the Patient Portal. It gives patients access to their records electronically.
"To have all that at your fingertips at home is fantastic for patients to be able to look after their own health," said Dr. Duncan Hill, Martha Jefferson Hospital.
Getting access to the secure site is pretty easy.
"If somebody comes to the hospital as an E.D. [emergency department] patient or is admitted as an in-patient, they be asked to participate in the portal. They can provide their email address, if they want to get access to a record. If they've been here before, they would go to our medical records department and show proof of identification and they can sign up there as well," said Josh Baumann, Application Manager for Martha Jefferson Hospital Information Services Department.
When a patient logs in on their computer or smart phone, they can find information about their lab results, medications, procedures and more.
Using the Patient Portal can help you find out what you need to know quickly and help you keep up with your health.
Once patients sign up for the patient portal, they'll be able to see current records as well as records from their past visits.
