Healthwise: New Imaging Services

January 05, 2012

Martha Jefferson's Spring Creek Family Medicine in Zion Crossroads it's expanding its services. Patients will now be able to come to the facility to get digital x-rays and screening mammograms without having to travel into Charlottesville.

“Looking at east of Charlottesville, we do not have much imaging services out in this area and we thought it would be a great convenience for the patients that live in this area,” said Susan Hunt, the Director of Medical Imaging at Martha Jefferson Hospital.

The center offers x-rays for infants all the way up to senior citizens. Not only are the new machines more accessible for patients they also produce faster results because they're digital.

“You don't have to wait for film to be developed. They don't have to be hand carried through the hospital to be viewed they can just be seen electronically,” said Jennifer Sandy, Marketing Director of Imaging Department.

And that equals big benefits for patients and doctors.

“Maybe you need a chest x-ray to determine if you have pneumonia or anything else serious. We take the x-ray, sync it right over and it gets reported right back to your physician's office in a half hour to hour time frame. Then maybe that patient can be treated with antibiotics or medication,” said Hunt.

Whether it's x-rays, mammograms or just a routine visit, the doctors at Spring Creek Family Medicine say they want to have their patients covered. So, they'll keep bringing in the latest medical devices and offering new services to provide the best care to the growing community.

Over the next few months Spring Creek Family Medicine is hoping to expand to include out-patient walk-in lab services and also EKG services. New imaging services are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m, to 5 p.m. You must have a physician order for x-rays and mammograms.

To make a mammogram appointment call 434-654-7130.
