Community Counts gives you a chance to learn more about the people and the organizations that have a positive impact on our community. This week we feature the 17th annual Charlottesville Spirit Walk.
In one of the first opportunities to get into the Halloween spirit, guides will take participants on an educational walk through the Maplewood Cemetery and/or Albemarle County Courthouse.
Participants will meet historical figures from Charlottesville's past, all the way back to the 18th century.
"You meet a lot of interesting people from Charlottesville's past," said organizer Steven Meeks. "You meet individuals who worked for Thomas Jefferson in a building at the University of Virginia. You meet a former mayor who was put on trial for the murder of his wife. You meet some professional women along the way. You also hear some very tragic stories - one lady will talk about the loss of her eight children who did not survive until adulthood."
The Spirit Walk is Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights Oct. 21-23. Tickets are still available and cost $12 for adults and $8 for children.
