For kids, it's bad news that the summer swimming season just ended, but good news that a state of the art pool is in the works at Fairview Swim & Tennis Club.

Swimmers from our area have been diving into the pool for over 40 years, and while the swimming community continues to grow, the pool can't get any bigger.

"The pool has really served its duty it's done yeoman's work since 1964," said Jim Cudahy, President of Virginia Gators of Charlottesville.

Soon, Fairview and the Virginia Gators are about to change things. They are about to build a pool nearby that's almost double the size.

"Its not so much what more can you do but when can you do it. With 10 lanes you can have an age group at one end of the pool and an outside group practicing or running a water aerobics class at the other end of the pool," said Michael Coppola, President of Fairview Swim & Tennis Club.

Having more lanes allows more kids to swim in events on race day and takes competitive swimming to the next level here in Albemarle County.

"We will make sure that it's a competative pool that has all the things you need for competition: that will be a great pool for racing in but also a great pool for training in," said JJ Bean, Fairview's head coach.
