The Covenant Eagles head into the 2009 season with a new head coach; Rich Little took over the position as former coach Mark Sanford departed for William Monroe. Despite being a young team, Covenant has high expectations for the season, and it all started Friday afternoon as the Eagles hosted Norfolk Christian for their first game of the season.

After an early field goal put them up 3-0, Covenant's Jesse Getchell turned a Breon Baily fumble into a touchdown for the Eagles; 10-0 Covenant.

On the ensuing kickoff, Kawonte' Moore took the kick and made his way up field, breaking five tackles on his way to paydirt. And just like that, Norfolk Christian is back in the game, trailing 10-7.

On the ensuing kickoff, Same Dale of Covenant says anything you can do I can do better. Dale returned the kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Covenant adds to their lead, up 16-7.

This game would feature three kickoff returns for touchdown, and in the end Covenant downs Norfolk Christian 40-28. Lee Coppock (QB- COV) goes 6-16 on the day with an interception and a touchdown, and Chris Shifflett (RB- COV) had 13 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown.
