Stereotypes aside, if you've ever wondered what pole dancing is really like, your chance is finally here. The Polarity Pole Dancing Competition is coming back to Charlottesville's Paramount Theater on Saturday, September 11.
Pole dancing, drama and plenty of tricks; local instructor Samantha Jones says Polarity will be a work of art.
"The competitors are going to be judged on their musicality, their long lines, but also the story that they give with their performance," said Jones, of EMW Pole Events.
Jones, who teaches pole dancing classes at Shergold Studios, helped plan last year's event at the Paramount. She says organizers have a lot in store for 2010, including an appearance from the world pole dancing champion, several celebrities and unique dance categories that might surprise people.
If you don't know much about pole dancing, Jones says that's all the more reason to attend the show at the Paramount. She says there are many misconceptions about pole dancing she would like to see diminished.
"I hope that we break that out and show what a theatrical, amazing fitness and sports side [pole dancing] has as well," she said.
Organizers say the event is will be jaw-dropping. You can find out more about Polarity and purchase tickets by visiting the Paramount Theater website.
