The now Google owned website has been an online phenomenon since catching on in late 2005. The website was sold to Google for $1.65 billion in November.
Around 70 million users visit the website each day. Chad Hurley, co-founder of YouTube, made the announcement Saturday that the site would now share revenue with its users.
Details of how much users will receive or what mechanism would be used have not been revealed yet.
Hurley says because the site has become so large, financial rewards would be a way of improving content.
