A local band gets its big break, goes on a European tour, and returns home. Sounds like a dream for most local bands but it's a dream come true for the guys from Parachute.
Will, Nate, Alex, Kit, and Johnny -- together they are Parachute, formerly known as Sparky's Flaw. All five band members either went to Charlottesville High School together or met in college at UVa.
"Five friends, we've known eachother forever, who generally enjoy playing that kind of music, just kinda a mainstream sound," lead singer Will Anderson said.
Even if you do don't recognize the name, the music may sound familiar. The band's songs "She is Love" and "Under Control" are used in commercials for Nivea Skincare.
"I think in this day and age it's a blessing," Anderson said. "Any band on a major label or trying to make it in the mainstream would take any opportunity now to get their music out there."
They have spent the past few months in Europe on tour with Kelly Clarkson but are excited to be returning home. They will play Friday night at the Jefferson Theater.
"I've seen a couple shows there and it's gorgeous. I can't wait to play there," drummer Johnny Stubblefield said.
The guys say they have plans in the works for a summer tour and to get into the studio to work on a new album.
"I think you'll see at the Jefferson, we have good idea of what our new sound is going to be, kind of the direction we want to start moving toward," Anderson said. "I feel like that will definitely be reflected in the next album."
This trip home is short lived for the group. Parachute will head back to Europe to play a series of shows in early May.
