It was a packed house at Live Arts Sunday night for an event full of color, dance and song; all for a cause.
Three contestants competed for the "Miss Red Ribbon" crown and a half dozen other performers took the stage for the first annual pageant. The charity drag show raises money for the Aids Services Group.
ASG provides free HIV testing, outreach programs, and support groups for hundreds in the Charlottesville area.
Female impersonators with stage names like "Max Miss Everything", "Reigna Beaux" and "Adora Parks" performed high-energy and dramatic routines to the soundrack of Beyonce, Reba McEntire, and Pattie LaBelle. The Newsplex's own Tara Wheeler served as the night's emcee.
Over $4,000 was raised for ASG. "Nevaeh Symone", who was eventually crowned the winner, says the night is about more than glitz and glam.
"It's the best form of entertainment that we can do. It's something for us, me as an entertainer, to give back to the community when they give something to me," said Symone.
