If you've ever set up a yard sale, you know just how much work goes into preparing for the big day. But how about a yard sale that brings in about $15,000? CBS19's Hailey Frances shows us how this week's hero is helping a local Senior Center make a profit.

The Senior Center on Pepsi Place in Charlottesville is almost entirely run on donations. When they need a financial boost, they call on Phyllis Jackson and her crew of yard sale pros to polish your throw-aways and turn it into profit for the Center.

It may look like the contents of your garage, but there are some great finds. Phyllis Jackson has been combing through the boxes: unpacking, cleaning, and prepping for these yard sales for over a decade.

"I think its fun," says Jackson. "I enjoy opening boxes and finding what's in there."

Phyllis and her crew of three other ladies all in their 70s and 80s, work tirelessly to host four sales a year. Last year, they brought in nearly $40,000.

"They see her putting in long hours doing a variety of projects here, and she does it with such energy that people see that- and they want to be part of that as well," says Sarah Althoff, a Senior Center Staffer.

With the money raised each yard sale, she's helping keep the lights on and the programs rolling.

We know there are many heroes in the community, and we want to hear your story. How does someone you know lend a helping hand? Send Hailey Frances an email.
