CBS19's Hailey Frances finds out how one local woman stays motivated to give life.
It's selfless--giving time and donating blood to save the lives of others. Marleen Veraart donates blood once every two weeks.
"It makes me feel good to be able to help somebody without a lot of brou-haha, you know, nobody knows that I'm sitting in here," says Marleen Veraart.
Veraart donates in Charlottesville every two weeks like clockwork. She's welcomed by nurses, who've become more like friends to her.
"Marleen is really an inspiration for anyone who wants to donate blood," says Brian Chandler of Virginia Blood Services.
Veraa's journey to routine blood donation began years ago, after her own fight with ovarian cancer. She overcame and now her blood goes to patients fighting cancer, traumatic injury, or receiving transplants.
"Anytime I give platelets, I always pray for the person that gets it that they will feel better," says Veraart.
If you know a hero, send Hailey an email at email@example.com and tell her who you know that makes a difference in our community, or puts a smile on your face.
Veraa has been donating blood since she moved to Virginia back in 2000.
