As the sun beats down on the Buford Middle School garden, kids from the Boys & Girls Club of Charlottesville/Albemarle eagerly await the chance to taste how Emily Erwin cooked up the fruits of their labor.

At the same time, it's Restaurant Week in Charlottesville. For many diners that means a cheap three-course meal at a high-end restaurant, but there's more to it this summer. Organizers are donating $1 from each meal to the PB&J Fund, a local non-profit that strives to make good food easily accessible to Charlottesville youth.

A majority of the responsibilities for the PB&J Fund lie in the hands of Erwin. She partners with local school and organizations to connect kids with the resources necessary to instill healthy eating habits.

"It's a lot of work, but it's a lot of fun. We really sort of target kids to work on their nutrition from a young age, so we do a lot of cooking skills a lot of meals together," said Erwin.

The PB&J Fund also strives to teach healthy cooking, partnering with the Boys & Girls Club to host and fund a cooking class with teenagers.

With one dollar from each Restaurant Week meal being donated to the PB&J Fund, Erwin will have even more resources to make sure healthy eating habits take root in the community.
