Usually the members of "Birthday Friends Forever" gather to help celebrate each other's birthday, but they're taking the day off to spend it with seniors at Envoy at the Village, an assisted living facility in Fork Union.
“We want to let them know that someone cares for them, loves them and that they haven't been forgotten,” said LaVern McMillan.
They stopped by the senior living center to share kind words and drop off gifts. “We brought things that they needed like tissues lotion, socks, hats, gloves, really anything we thought that they needed just try to help them out,” said McMillan.
It's a gesture that means a lot to the folks at Envoy at the Village.
“It's just nice to see that people want to give their time for something like that,” said Claude Smiley.
Although residents are excited about their new socks, powder and lotion, they say they enjoy the conversation and the visit even more. “People like this come in you can talk to them about anything you want," said Smiley. "They listen. If you want to cry a little bit you can cry with them."
The Birthday Friends Forever knows that some of these residents don't get a lot of visitors, so they just wanted to do something nice to brighten their day. This may be the group's first visit to Envoy at the Village, but they say it won't be their last. They're planning to come back with more presents, hugs, and conversation for the seniors.
