Jennifer's Heroes: Independent Resource Center

Nate Brown, a photographer and a licensed minister, helped create the Independent Resource Center to help people with disabilities.
Brown said, "There was no central place they could go to and have experts that knew about the different offerings from various government agencies that they could have."
Brown was born with Ostenogenesis Imperfecta, or Brittle Bones Disease. He works to help teach his disabled neighbors how to navigate their own homes. 63 year old Brown also puts in countless hours ensuring that area businesses are compliant. Brown added, "If we miss a beat, somebody is affected."
Tom Vandever, the Executive Director of the IRC says of Brown, "I've never seen Nate slow down in all of the years that I've known him, in fact he seems to take on more and more tasks."
Brown only questioned his disposition once, to his mother, when he was four years old. Brown repeated the conversation and said, "She says to me, Nate God made some people to walk and some not to walk, but you have a job and so you got to pray and work hard, and you'll find your job. That was sufficient then and its sufficient now."
