Fred Wease spends nearly everyday at the Dogwood Village senior home in Orange County. He's not a resident there, but a volunteer. For five to six hours a week, the 85-year-old Wease makes the journey down the hallways.
“I just like to come and help get them up and bring them to the
activities,” he said.
Wease has been volunteering at Dogwood Village of Orange County for years. He transports residents from their room to various programs and activities, most of whom staff say can't wait to see his smiling face.
“Regular faces like Fred mean everything to the residents. People will perk up when they see Fred, come into the room when they know Fred is here or they get disappointed when he's not here,” said Vernon Baker, an administrator at Dogwood Village.
“There's other things that I could do, but you just want to do something like this,” said Wease.
Wease gets so much joy from volunteering. Knowing that he's helping brighten another person's day helps to brighten his.
