In this week's Stephanie's heroes cbs19's Stephanie Satchel is featuring Anne Tyree, who's been called a standout volunteer at Orange Elementary School.
Anne Tyree is no stranger to Orange Elementary School. She worked in the school system for 34 years before retiring in 2012. Now she's back helping in any way she can.
“It makes me feel really happy. It's a happy feeling to know that I've done things and I'm appreciated for doing it,” said Anne Tyree, Volunteer.
When she's not substitute teaching, you can still find her volunteering in the classroom helping students read or complete other assignments.
Maybe a child is having a hard day or having a hard time…I can go in and help that child maybe tutor just a little bit,” said Tyree.
Teachers and administrators say she's always looking out for the children.
She even provides schools supplies like crayons, notebooks and folders for children in need.
“Mrs. Tyree brings a giving spirit and energy to the school that really makes this place a pleasant place to come to learn and work,” said Dominic Sodano, Assistant Principal, Orange Elementary School.
Her work also extends outside of the classroom. Every week she brings in fresh flowers from her garden.
“I thought if I can just brighten someone's day and make a child smile or a co-worker smile I've made my life.
After more than four decades of service her peers are calling her a hero for positively impacting the school, and the hundreds of people who have passed through it.
